Innovative
Fort was founded in 1950 for manufacturing wheelbarrows in quite a new way. At that time these traditional one-wheeled means of transport were mainly out of
wood. FORT made its wheelbarrows of steel, choosing new designs and using new production methods. This resulted in better and more economical products. So
right from the start FORT has chosen the innovative approach, in more ways than one. Thus quickly taking an edge over the competition and becoming one of
Europe’s leading wheelbarrow manufacturers. This position has only been strengthened over the years. Since October 2005 FORT is part of the ALTRAD Group.
The ALTRAD Group is well known because of its leadership in concrete mixers and scaffolding.
Wheelbarrows +
Although wheelbarrows still are FORT’s core business, the variety of other small transport products is increasing rapidly. A complete line of ergonomic
hand trucks and an ingenious garden tool for moving big pots with plants are examples of this development, which also contributes to the continuous growth of
the company. As a member of the ALTRAD Group, possibilities in development and synergy in product ranges will also certainly add their specific value.
Value for Money
The innovative approach by FORT not only finds expression in the product characteristics. The production process demonstrates it too. Most products are made in
our own factory in the Netherlands. The highly automated production lines contribute to the right quality and keep production costs down. This makes each FORT
product real value for money.
Worldwide export
Already a few years after the successful start of the company in the fifties, FORT began to export wheelbarrows. Nowadays more than 70% of the total production
is exported to a great number of areas spread
over the globe. In some countries subsidiary companies of the Altrad group are responsible for sales and service. In many other cases there’s a close
co-operation between Fort and dedicated distributors or agents. With most of them the relationship exists already for decades.

Where wheelbarrows are concerned, the FORT range can virtually meet every wish. A number of well-designed standard parts like trays, frames and wheels can be
assembled into various configurations. This allows distributors and resellers to fulfil the various needs of their customers quickly and efficiently without
keeping large stocks. If necessary and possible the same principle is applied to other products too.
Quick and flexible delivery
After the take over by the Altrad Group, enormous steps have been made in increasing the effectiveness of the production flow and flexibility. Together with
efficient warehousing and loading capacity, it allows FORT to deliver within a week on standard products, therewith decreasing the client’s need for big
